Antimicrobial Therapy
Treatment of wounds infected with bacteria Antimicrobial wound therapy refers to the treatment of wounds infected with bacteria. It involves the use of antibiotics to combat bacterial growth within the wound, reduce bacterial load, and promote healing. Antimicrobial dressings are also used to tailor treatment options. Examples include silver- impregnated dressings, honey dressings, and iodine dressings.

Involves placing a vacuum over a dressed wound, which draws fluid from the body through the wound and stimulates blood flow to the wound.
Edema Management
Persistent tissue swelling within and around a healing wound is detrimental to a smooth repair process. Edema can cause significant pain at the wound site, discouraging limb mobility that improves circulation to the site. Edema fluid can also serve as a medium for the proliferation of bacteria and other microorganisms leading to wound infection, and tissue breakdown. Further, the seepage of excess fluid into the spaces between cells can increase the pressure on small blood vessels in that area destroying them and causing local tissue necrosis. Examples of what we use to manage Edema: Exercise and ambulation, compression wear, elevation of edematous area, and most importantly control of chronic medical conditions causing the edema.
